Overview

The World Karate & Kickboxing Union (WKU) is an international martial arts organization bringing together athletes, clubs, coaches, referees, and administrators from around the world.
Managing such a diverse network requires efficient coordination of member information, applications, tournaments, qualifications, and competition results.
WKU entrusted Citrus Codes with the development of a dedicated web platform designed to connect these processes and simplify the organization's daily operations.
The platform brings member and dojo records, applications, tournaments, certificates, and rankings into one system, providing different user groups with the tools they need while making selected information accessible to the public.

Challenge 

The main challenge was creating a centralized system capable of supporting different user groups with distinct roles and responsibilities.
Athletes, dojos, country representatives, and administrators work with interconnected information but require different levels of access and functionality.
Applications need to move through approval processes, tournament results must be reflected in rankings, and qualifications need to remain connected to individual member profiles.
The system also needed to organize these processes into a consistent digital experience while making relevant information accessible to the wider martial arts community.

Solution

Citrus Codes developed a role-based web application that connects the organization's key administrative and competitive processes within a single platform. The system provides centralized management of members and dojos, allowing athlete records, club information, and related data to be maintained and accessed according to user roles and responsibilities. Dedicated application and approval workflows help organize administrative requests, while tournament management features connect competitions with athlete records and results. Certificates and qualifications are linked to individual member profiles, creating a structured overview of achievements, credentials, and professional development.
Competition results are integrated into season rankings, enabling the organization to maintain updated records of athlete performance across different events. Alongside its administrative capabilities, the platform includes public athlete profiles, dojo directories, event information, and rankings, making relevant information accessible to the wider martial arts community. The application supports both English and German, providing a consistent experience for its international users. By connecting membership management, administrative workflows, tournament results, and public information, the platform provides WKU with a comprehensive digital environment for managing its organizational activities.

Impact

The WKU platform supports the daily operations of an international martial arts organization, bringing member management, dojos, tournaments, qualifications, and rankings into one connected digital environment. In 2026, the system's records include 34,204 members, 1,653 active dojos and schools, and 118 countries worldwide, reflecting the scale of the international network supported by the platform. By connecting administrative processes, competition results, and public information, the system simplifies everyday operations and provides a centralized source of information for athletes, clubs, and administrators. Our collaboration with WKU extends beyond software development. In 2026, the Citrus Codes team was invited to attend the WKU World Championships in Berlin, strengthening our partnership and providing an opportunity to experience the international sporting environment firsthand. The project demonstrates how custom software solutions can support complex international organizations and connect their administrative and competitive activities.
